With the various mercenary archetypes coming in, including melee, ranged, curse, caster, and aura types, I’m really hoping that the “Aura” AI archetype will have a strict “follow only” policy. It seems unfair if melee mercs are forced to use melee weapons and ranged mercs are stuck in their roles, manipulating their behavior feels a bit broken when they default to being aggressive. I think we definitely need them to act more like a “meat shield only” support instead. What do you all think?

It really depends on their skill sets. Who knows? There might be a rare aurabot archetype, but I’m doubtful. More likely, we’ll see varied summoners or spellcasters with helpful auras, along with melee options for buffs like pride or determination.
It’s true that mercs are only about half as strong as a player, so relying on them can lead to some serious danger. If you want consistent support in tough spots, you might be in for a rough ride! But hey, if they can be useful and not just aggressive tanky fighters, that’d be cool!
Man, I just wish they acted more like my AG, who just follows and takes hits without trying to be a hero.
It would be nice to choose between defensive, offensive, and neutral options for merc behaviors, like our regular minions. Fingers crossed they implement something like that!
Even if they delay it for a bit, having a behavior setup added after a month or so would still be great—though I know they’re busy with tons of other developments.
Mercs seem to have their own set of adaptive skills. I bet they’ll play aggressively if monsters get too close, but ultimately, this feels more like a league mechanic than a pure aura bot. It’s gonna be a challenge to replace having actual friends in your party!
Yeah, they might be adaptable, but I think most will have either 1 or 2 auras or aspects at best.
I think the mercs won’t deliver crazy damage like players do. Sure, in the early game, they might help clear a bit, but many will just look to them as back-up AGs. I could be wrong, though!
I actually think they’ll outshine our expectations! Guess we’ll see!
Totally agree! It would be awesome to have the ability to set their behaviors. Personally, I’m hoping for a solid ranged support aura merc that just hangs back and helps with DPS!
That’d be great! But I’m worried that even with ranged weapons, they might still flail around like rogue exiles targeting immobile enemies.
If they were like half the strength of someone like Ben, I’d be outta luck hiring them! Better hope they play into more of a support role than heroics.
