Hey everyone, I’m planning to build a new PC because my old motherboard died. I want to go for a Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU and eventually an RTX 5090, but the 5090 is really pricey right now, way above MSRP, so I’m thinking of waiting. My question is: will the Ryzen 9 9950X3D work fine with my old RTX 2080 graphics card in the meantime? Or will there be any compatibility or performance issues?

Your Ryzen 9 9950X3D will have no problem running with your RTX 2080. CPUs like that can work well with pretty much any PCIe graphics card, so you won’t have any compatibility issues. You can definitely use your 2080 until GPU prices level out.
If you’re really itching for some shiny new tech, you might consider grabbing a 9070XT or a similar mid-tier card temporarily and then upgrade to the 5090 later when prices drop. But honestly, using your 2080 for now is a solid plan and will save you money in the meantime.
No worries, the 2080 will run just fine with your new CPU. Honestly, your build sounds pretty awesome—and it’s smart to keep using your current GPU instead of dropping a ton of cash on the latest card right away. Good luck with building your rig!
Haha, appreciate it! Had my last PC for like 10 years, so when it finally died I wanted to start fresh with everything new.
Thanks, that’s what I was hoping to hear!
