Hey everyone! I’m trying to find the best way to mirror my Steam Deck’s screen on my MacBook without experiencing any lag. I’ve already tried using Steam Link, but due to my poor internet connection, it’s not a viable option. I’m thinking that using cables might be the way to go, but I need advice on what specific cables to buy and whether a capture card is necessary. It’s crucial for me to use my MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad when it’s acting as a monitor, as I want to enjoy games on a larger screen, especially for FPS games like CS2. Any tips would be awesome! Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can’t use your MacBook as a monitor for your Steam Deck. The USB-C ports on MacBooks are primarily for output, meaning they can’t take in video signals. You might find something online like a dummy HDMI dongle to potentially work with an HDMI port, but I’ve never tried it myself. It’s a bit hit or miss, so do your research!
I’ve had good luck using an inexpensive USB-A to USB-C capture card from Amazon. It cost me about $20, and after setting it up with OBS on my MacBook, I found it runs without any noticeable input lag. If that doesn’t work for you, I also recommend checking out some portable monitors; I grabbed one on sale for around $99 and it works great for gaming! Good luck!
I have an M2 MacBook Air and I was curious about the HDMI compatibility. Thanks for the info!
