Hey everyone! I’ve got an Xbox Series S, and I’m struggling with storage space. There are a lot of new games coming out that I really want to play, but I don’t want to delete any of my current games. I’ve read that the Seagate Game Drive can store and allow me to play games optimized for the Xbox Series X/S. Before I go ahead and buy one, I just want to confirm that I can actually play those optimized games directly from the drive. Can anyone help me out with this?

You’re right that the Seagate option claims to work, but it’s tricky. Most games optimized for Series X/S need that faster internal storage or an expansion card to play. You can use the drive for storage, but don’t expect to play higher-end games directly off it, especially if it’s a regular HDD. Always best to invest in the right expansion card for full compatibility!
Just to add on, if you use a USB HDD, it won’t run any Series X/S games at all. They can’t handle the speed necessary to play those newer titles. You can only keep older games on there, like from the Xbox One or earlier. For that next-gen experience, seriously consider getting one of those expansion cards—it’s worth it!
Unfortunately, the Seagate Game Drive isn’t the answer for playing Series X/S optimized games. Only the Western Digital or Seagate Storage Expansion Cards will let you play those games directly from the console. USB drives can store the games, but for playing them, you’ll need to transfer them to the internal SSD or a compatible expansion card first. So, if you’re looking to play optimized games right off an external drive, that’s a hard pass!

Thanks for clarifying! So I’ll definitely need to go for the expansion card instead. Appreciate the help!
