I’m currently streaming from a PC that doesn’t have an HDR-ready monitor, but my Deck OLED does support HDR. I’m curious if I can stream in HDR to my Deck. I saw an experimental HDR option in Moonlight, and I can also enable HDR settings on my PC screen when I set my Deck as the second screen. Notably, the brightness of my Deck screen increases even without activating the HDR option in Moonlight while streaming in desktop mode. Is this normal? Should I adjust the brightness? Additionally, I know that for HDR games on Steam through Moonlight, I have to enable HDR within the game’s settings if it’s compatible. Am I overlooking anything? Is enabling HDR worth it? Thanks for any help!

Totally! I’ve been streaming HDR using Apollo with Moonlight and it works like a charm. Here’s a quick setup guide: 1. Open Apollo in your browser on the desktop. 2. Edit the Steam Big Picture application settings. 3. Check ‘always use virtual display’ and save. 4. Enable the HDR option in Moonlight on your Deck. 5. Connect to the virtual desktop first, and ensure HDR is enabled in Windows for that display. 6. Finally, stream the Steam Big Picture application. You should have HDR running perfectly!
Absolutely! If you want an easier experience, consider using Apollo instead of Sunshine. It really simplifies streaming in HDR.
Yeah, using Apollo has been great for me. I can confirm that streaming HDR is working smoothly! I’ve been playing Diablo 4 in ultra settings at 60 FPS, and it looks fantastic on my Deck, even with my older mid-range PC.
Yes, you can create virtual monitors with Apollo that support HDR. This way, you can stream without hassle. Just make sure you’ve got everything set up correctly.
