I’m trying to figure out if I can use the included charger from my Nintendo Switch with my Steam Deck dock. Space is tight in my TV area, so I only have room to connect one dock at a time. Currently, I’m using the Switch dock with its default charger. If I want to switch to the Steam Deck, can I just swap the charger and HDMI cable over, or is there a risk it won’t work properly? Thanks in advance for any advice!

From my experience, the Switch charger will technically work because they both connect through USB-C, but it’s not ideal. The Switch requires less power, meaning the Steam Deck might just not charge properly and could end up discharging instead. If you can, just keep the dedicated chargers for each device.
I’d steer clear of using the Switch charger for your Steam Deck. It doesn’t provide enough power, and you might find that the Steam Deck just drains battery even while docked. It’s designed to handle more power than the Switch, so stick to its original charger if you can.
I’ve swapped chargers between my Switch and Steam Deck before with mixed results. While both are USB-C, the Switch charger outputs less power, so your Steam Deck may run slower or even lose charge while plugged in. I’d recommend using the official Steam Deck charger whenever possible to avoid any issues.
Totally agree! It’s best to keep the battery longevity in mind.
Yeah, I learned that the hard way too! Better safe than sorry when it comes to keeping that battery healthy.
