Hey everyone! I recently got back into the hobby and started building an army. I’m really excited but I think I’ve made a mistake. I’ve been using Citadel plastic glue to base my models, but now I’m thinking they’d look way better on pre-made terrain bases. My question is, if I’ve already glued them with plastic glue, can I safely remove the models and re-base them without damaging the models? I understand that plastic glue forms a chemical bond, so I’m a bit worried about what might happen to the models during the removal process.

I’ve had success using a craft knife to cut between the feet and the base. Usually, there’s a little gap where you can slide in the knife. Just be careful and slice straight through.
Honestly, if you’re changing the bases anyway, I’d recommend just clipping them off around the feet. Then, you can sand or cut down whatever’s left on the bottom of their feet to fit the new bases. Bases are super cheap, and the models cost a lot, so I’d happily sacrifice a bunch of bases if needed!
Thanks for the tips! I’m a bit nervous about trying that myself. Maybe it’s time to learn how to apply terrain bases with the models still on them.
It really depends on how much glue you used and how your models are positioned. You might be able to twist them off without causing any damage. If that doesn’t work, snipping the base and carefully cutting or filing the leftover bits on the feet, as others have mentioned, is a solid approach.
I haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve heard that putting them in the freezer can help make the glue snap off easier. Just a heads up though, I can’t confirm if that works with plastic glue!
That works with super glue, but plastic cement is a different thing, so it might not help here.
Exactly, OP used plastic cement, which bonds differently than super glue. So freezing might not be the answer.
Totally agree with you! If the base has to go, big snips can make quick work of that. Once that’s done, just clean up the bit left on the feet with mini snips or some sandpaper. It makes it a breeze.
