Hey everyone! I used to play World of Warcraft back in 2007 and 2008, and I returned during the Pandaria expansion in 2012. Recently, I came across some WoW videos on Instagram, and it sparked a desire to jump back in for some nostalgia. However, I’m a bit confused about all the changes since I’ve been away. There’s a Classic mode now which adds to my confusion. If I dive back into WoW now, can I still experience it like I used to—starting as a Druid in the forest or joining the fight against the Lich King? I don’t recall using any addons back then, just the vanilla HUD. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s the lowdown on what’s happening in WoW now. You’ve got Retail, which has the latest expansion and all current content like the War Within expansion and the Undermine raid. Then there’s Classic, which has several versions now—like Vanilla Classic, Wrath Classic, and Cata Classic. Right now, Cata Classic is the latest, but MoP (the Panda DLC) is on the way! There are also anniversary servers and a Hardcore mode where if you die, that’s it for your character! So, there’s a lot of options, and all communities are pretty active, so you’ll find plenty of players to team up with!
You can definitely jump back in and create a character to start playing just like before. The game has evolved a lot, so some content might be challenging without addons, but there’s still loads you can do without them. Don’t worry, you can still enjoy the game at your own pace!
Thanks! Just trying to figure out if it still feels the same as before, since the game looks so different now.
