Has anyone here tried connecting to a Windows PC from a Linux machine for gaming purposes? I’m thinking about setting up my gaming rig to run exclusively on Windows, only firing it up for gaming or video rendering tasks. This setup could allow me to enjoy the Linux environment for everything else, while still getting the proper gaming experience without having to dual boot between operating systems. Plus, it might save a bit on electricity too!
For those who have done this before, I’d love to hear about your experiences—especially issues like input delay and what software you found most effective for the remote connection.

You might want to check out Moonlight and Sunshine for remote gaming. They work best when both your Windows and Linux systems are on the same network. I’ve tried it for casual gaming like Civ 6 and Mortal Kombat, and while I can’t guarantee zero latency, it felt pretty good! Plus, setting up Wake On LAN is a bonus, letting you turn the host on from the client if it’s asleep.
I actually set this up recently too! I’m using Sunshine and Moonlight on both systems. I got an HDMI emulator doing 144 fps, so I don’t need a monitor connected. It works pretty well—though I had some flickering issues that turning off V-Sync seemed to help with. Lag is minimal unless you’re really into competitive shooters. Just wish I had a better way to switch out to my browser on the Linux side!
