Hey fellow Guardians! I absolutely loved playing Destiny 1 back in the day, but I never got around to trying out The Taken King expansion. I’m thinking about diving back into the game, but I don’t have a PS Plus subscription. Do I need to engage in online activities, like raids or strikes, to access the expansion’s campaign, or can I just enjoy it offline?

Unfortunately, you can’t play any of Destiny 1 or 2 without an online connection. Everything is tied to online play, so no local options here. You definitely need PS+ for any experience in the game.
Yep, you’ll need PS+ to access any of the content in Destiny. If you’re running the campaign solo, that’s fine, but anything that involves matchmaking or groups will definitely require an active membership.
You could play solo for the campaign missions, but anything that involves cooperative play, like raids or strikes, would need you to have PS+. Just reach out to some friends, and maybe you can get a temporary share to enjoy the full experience!
