I’m curious about gaming on an older setup. I have a 3rd generation Intel Pentium dual-core CPU, and I know some good games from before 2012 run well on this through Windows 10 or 8 at low to medium settings, like Assassin’s Creed II and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. If I were to install Linux on this machine, could I still play these games using Wine or Proton?

This is really about whether your PC can run the games at all, not just the OS. Keep in mind that older GPUs might struggle with Linux if they lack Vulkan support, which can affect how well games perform compared to Windows.
You’ll likely have similar performance on Linux as you would on Windows since you’re using Wine, but don’t expect any major improvements. Just remember, Wine isn’t magic and doesn’t usually enhance performance beyond what your hardware can handle.
True! For older GPUs, the lack of Vulkan does make a difference, so be prepared for some potential hurdles.
