I’m looking to free up some desk space and want to know if it’s possible to move my gaming PC to another room while keeping my dual 240Hz monitors and other peripherals like my keyboard and mouse in the original room. I’m considering using long DisplayPort cables for the monitors, but I’m worried about lag with my peripherals. Are there any docking stations that won’t cause a delay for gaming? I frequently play games like CS2, Valorant, and League of Legends. Any advice on powered USB hubs or alternatives would be appreciated!

It’s feasible, but I’d suggest downsizing to a smaller case for your PC instead. That might open up more desk space without the hassle of running long cables around.
You can definitely run your PC from an adjacent room as long as you keep the cable length reasonable—around 2-3 meters should work fine. Just remember that wireless peripherals probably won’t work well through walls, so it’s best to keep everything connected directly. You can also set your PC to wake from sleep when you turn your mouse on, making things easier for you.
Just a heads up, the length of your DisplayPort cables matters. If you go over 15 feet, you might run into issues with maintaining that 240Hz refresh rate. For better performance, consider looking into fiber optic cables, but those can get pricey. Also, maybe think about mounting your PC to save space instead of moving it.
Thanks for the tip on the fiber optic cables! I’ll also check out wall mounts. Anything to free up space on my desk.
That’s great to know! I really want to avoid lag for gaming, so I’ll stick to direct connections as much as possible.
