I’m planning to start with the newest Assassin’s Creed games – Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, and Mirage – and I’m curious if I’ll be able to follow the story without having played the earlier games like AC1, 2, 3, or Black Flag. Will I miss out on important context or can these new titles stand on their own?

You can definitely play these newer games as standalones! They mostly dropped the overarching plot that linked the earlier games together. Just keep an eye out for a few references but nothing that ruins the experience. They’re fun on their own!
Yeah, you can totally dive in without worrying about the older games. The stories are pretty much separate and don’t rely on the earlier installments. Each new game introduces its own narrative, so you’ll be just fine starting with Origins! It’s literally like a fresh start for the series.
If you’re just interested in the gameplay and atmosphere, you can skip the originals. But if you ever get the chance, I’d suggest playing the first few titles later on. Just to appreciate how the series evolved! The older games have their charm, especially the story elements that started the entire saga.
Totally agree! AC1 through 3 has some great storylines. AC1 sets a nice foundation that really highlights the franchise’s roots.
Exactly! And if you’re mostly looking for epic gameplay and new characters, you won’t feel lost.
