I have a PS5 and I’m thinking about installing a new SSD that already has some of the same games installed on it as my PS5’s internal storage. I’m wondering what happens if I do this—will the games conflict or cause problems? Should I delete the games from the PS5’s internal drive first, or is it okay to keep both copies?

Since the PS5 treats the SSD as a separate drive from the internal storage, it doesn’t overwrite anything when you install or swap drives. You can actually move the M.2 SSD to a different PS5 later without losing your game data. So no need to delete games from your internal storage before installing the SSD.
You should be fine installing the SSD even if it has games already on it. The PS5 will just recognize the games on the new SSD as separate from the internal storage, so no conflicts will occur. When I upgraded to a new PS5 model, I moved my existing games from the old console’s storage to the SSD and transferred it without any problems.
It won’t cause any issues because the PS5 treats the internal drive and the SSD as two separate storage locations. You’ll end up with two copies of the same game on different drives, but that’s totally normal. You can choose which drive to use for new downloads and manage your gigs separately.
