I’ve never played World of Warcraft before, and I’m curious if it’s possible to experience the game’s story from its very beginning, when it first launched, all the way up to the current events. I really don’t want to start in the middle and miss out on the backstory or important details.

To experience WoW split between its major chapters, you might want to play Classic, then progress through the expansions like Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria. However, the retail version doesn’t follow a linear story, so you might miss a lot of context. If lore is your goal, consider also playing the older Warcraft RTS games or checking comprehensive lore guides online.
It’s technically possible, but it’s a convoluted journey! WoW’s lore involves a lot of time travel and jumping around different expansions, so you’d be bouncing around timelines until you get to the current events. It might help to check out some lore videos on YouTube to better understand the backstory.
You can definitely start from Classic and play through, but you’ll hit max level long before finishing the entire story. If you want to enjoy the narrative as you level up, consider locking your experience gains at level 30. This way, you can follow through each expansion in a more chronological order.
Locking your XP is a great way to do it! You’ll get to experience the expansions without out-leveling the zones too fast.
You could go back and play through each expansion one at a time, but it’s important to remember that a lot of the storylines have changed over the years. Watching lore clips or getting summaries could save you time and frustration if you’re looking to grasp the overarching narrative quickly.
Definitely, I’d recommend checking out the older RTS games for that foundational story stuff—it’s a great way to understand the origins!
Agreed, it’s way easier to watch videos. Those can give you the context you need without the hassle of leveling through all that content.
