So I was wondering, if I have a game on my PC that’s not linked to any launcher (just the executable and necessary files), can I connect it to Steam and play it on my Steam Deck?

And one more thing, if the game happens to be pirated, you probably won’t want to risk running it just in case it gets flagged. Also, what do you mean by needing a layer of Proton to run it?
Just to clarify, while you can add it as a non-Steam game, that’s about as far as the linking goes. You can’t actually link it in the way you might be thinking.
Absolutely! You can transfer all the game files to your Steam library and add the .exe as a non-Steam game. Just keep in mind, you might need to use Proton to make it run smoothly on the Deck.
When you say linking, are you talking about playing it from the Steam Deck? If you add it as a non-Steam game on your PC, you can stream it to your Deck if they’re on the same network. Otherwise, you’ll need to move the files over directly and set it up on the Deck.
