Hey everyone, I’m new to the PC world and I want to build a gaming PC with a budget between $650 and $800. I currently stream on my Xbox Series S but want to dive into more PC games, particularly driving and racing titles, along with some AAA and open-world games. I’m looking to maximize performance—specifically aiming for at least 1080p resolution and around 120 FPS or more. While I do care about the smooth experience, aesthetics aren’t a priority; I’m fine with a mostly black PC. Additionally, I’d love it if the setup could include a robust storage solution, ideally 2TB SSD along with a 1TB HDD if possible. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Honestly, aiming for that $800 budget while wanting high FPS and a large storage capacity is tough. If your focus is on racing games, you might get by with some lower settings without losing too much enjoyment. Aim for medium settings on some titles and that could relieve some pressure from your budget. But yeah, it may help to look at used or older generation parts to stretch your dollar further. Also, having a specific list of parts you’re considering could help narrow things down; then we can brainstorm the best approach for your needs!
It’s going to be a real challenge to get everything you want under $800. While you’ll be fine with lower resolutions, your need for 120 FPS might limit your options significantly. If, for instance, you want to play a remastered game like Oblivion, a decent graphics card like the 6800 XT will eat up a large part of your budget—around $500 or so for that alone! Plus, don’t forget that storage can be pricey too. 4TB might set you back another $200, which doesn’t leave much for the rest of your components. You may want to rethink your expectations or consider raising your budget a bit. Also, if you have any specs in mind already, share them! I can help tweak to squeeze out more performance!
I primarily play racing games, so I’m not super worried about AAA titles. I’m optimistic there’s a way to get solid performance at my budget!
Thanks for the input! I’ll definitely look into older parts and see what options are out there.
