I’m really curious about the upcoming Astartes II and whether it might build on the storyline from the first one. I’ve been working on a homebrew successor chapter of the Retributors, and I want to reference the events from the first Astartes. I remember hearing something about how the whole chapter vanished, got recreated in the Ultima Founding, and then later merged back with the original chapter as its 11th company when they were found again. I’m thinking of pausing my project to see if Astartes II offers something that fits with my ideas or if I should just go for it now. What do you guys think?

Are you the type who watches a movie and keeps asking “who’s that?” every time someone new comes up? Just dive into your own writing!
The trailer offers no more than we’ve already seen. Just make your best guess based on the existing material, bottom line. Go with your instincts.
Did you catch the new trailer? Just a heads up, you’ve got the same info as the rest of us—pretty much zip!
At this point, we know absolutely nothing beyond the first Astartes and that preview. GW confirmed the preview wasn’t actual footage from the upcoming sequel, but it might hint towards the Marines’ time within the Deathwatch. That’s about as much as we have for now.
It’s totally a possibility, but honestly, the trailer is all we have to go off right now. Sequels generally expand on the previous story, but until Astartes II drops, we won’t know for sure. Just remember, your chapter is your creation too! You don’t need to wait on a new release to tell your own story—feel free to build it how you see fit! You’re just holding back from showcasing your creativity by waiting on someone else’s work.
You can find info about the Retributors on the Lexicanum. Honestly, it’s unlikely GW will reveal much about Astartes II outside of official announcements. You can analyze the first Astartes or just base your ideas on what’s already out there and see if you want to wait or not.
Good point. Thanks for the insight!
