Hey everyone, I’m thinking about upgrading my graphics card to an RTX 4060 Ti and was wondering if my current setup could handle it. I currently have an RTX 3050 on a Micro-ATX board with a Ryzen 7 5800x, two 16GB DDR4 RAM sticks, a 1TB HDD, a 256GB NVMe SSD, a 500GB SATA SSD, and a 550W power supply. Will I need to upgrade my PSU, or can it handle the new GPU?

If you’re still running with the RTX 3050, you probably remember it was a decent card during those hard-to-find GPU days. But jumping to a 4060 Ti might push your PSU to its limits. Personally, I wouldn’t risk long-term use with a 550W. It’s worth spending a bit more for that extra peace of mind.
I’ve had similar setups, and a 550W PSU can be risky. Manufacturers often suggest a bit more power to cover peaks and ensure all components are stable. Since you’ve got a solid rig, it might be a good idea to invest in at least a 600W PSU to avoid any potential headaches down the road. Better safe than sorry, I say.
From what I’ve seen, the manufacturer usually recommends a power supply of around 600W to 650W for your setup with an RTX 4060 Ti. While it’s possible your 550W PSU might get the job done, it’s cutting it quite close. If your PSU is worn out or on the older side, it might struggle to keep up, causing instability issues. Just keep an eye on things if you decide to stick with your current PSU.
