Best Ways to Play Classic Nintendo Games on Modern TVs Without Being a Tech Genius

-

I’m looking for a way to enjoy my favorite NES, SNES, and N64 games on a new HD TV. I’ve had some experience using emulators on my laptop, but I found that trying to run RetroArch on my Fire Stick was kind of a hassle since it required my laptop to be on and was pretty slow. I’ve done my research, but most suggestions involve a lot of technical jargon about AV signals, which is not my strong suit. I want something fairly easy to set up—I’m fine with spending some money, but I’m not looking for a tech nightmare. I just want a user-friendly solution to get those classic games up and running on my TV!

I’ve tried a bunch of options like Raspberry Pi, PC, and even the Switch, but my favorite has been the MiSTer FPGA. It’s got HDMI support, so it works perfectly with modern TVs, and it’s super user-friendly to set up. You can get the new MiSTer Pi, a cheaper version, for around $100. Plus, it supports almost any controller, which is a major bonus! Definitely worth checking out.

If you’re looking for simplicity, the Nintendo Switch might be your best bet since it has built-in classic games. The downside is that you’re limited to the titles available on their service, which may not include your favorites. Alternatively, a Raspberry Pi is pretty easy to set up, and if anything goes wrong, you can just reset the SD card and try again. Just be aware that setting it up might not be for everyone.

I suggest keeping it simple—just connect your laptop directly to your TV! You can run all the same emulators and ROMs you already have without needing to set up anything new. Grab a good HDMI cable, and you’re good to go!

Totally agree! This is probably the easiest way to get started without spending too much. Just plug and play!
