Hey everyone! I’m considering upgrading my gaming setup and need some advice. Currently, I’m looking to jump from 1080p to 1440p, but my current rig just won’t make the cut. Prices for building an entirely new PC are through the roof, which is dampening my enthusiasm for picking out each part. To save some cash right now, I’m thinking about just upgrading my GPU for the time being and tackling the rest of the system later. What do you all think? What GPU or even a combo of GPU and CPU would you recommend to meet my gaming needs?

I’d suggest upgrading to a 40 series GPU, like the 4070 Super or 4070 Ti. Your 10th Gen Intel i7 is still a solid chip, and you can use both the GPU and a potential PSU upgrade in your future full build. Speaking of PSUs, something like the Super Flower Leadex VII XG with 850W would pair nicely and includes the new 12VHPWR cable for the GPU. Don’t stress too much about your CPU; it can handle 1440p gaming just fine for now.
By the way, if you decide to upgrade your GPU, keep your old GTX 1080 as a backup or secondary rig. I’ve found that even as a placeholder, it keeps older games running smoothly.
If you’re looking for budget options, consider the 4060 Ti. It’s a decent card that’ll serve you well for 1440p gaming without breaking the bank. If you can stretch your budget a bit, the 4070 Super or Ti will definitely give you longevity for higher frame rates.
I just wanted to throw in that choosing between WOLED and QD-OLED comes down to your room’s lighting conditions. If you’re gaming in a sunlit room, a satin finish would be preferable, while glossy displays might be better for darker setups. Of course, this doesn’t directly relate to your GPU discussion, but good monitors can enhance your experience!
