Hey fellow gamers! I just dove into Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I’m really enjoying it. I’d love to put together a wishlist for some more turn-based tactical RPGs I could play next. Here’s what I’m specifically enjoying in FE: Three Houses and what I’m looking for in other games:
1. An explorable base that can grow and upgrade, similar to Expeditions: Rome.
2. A system for travel that allows me to choose battles from a map screen instead of slogging across a big world like in Wartales.
3. The various activities at the monastery, like training with other characters, discovering their stories, and engaging in fun distractions such as meals or fishing to break up the action.
4. Cool character recruitment mechanics that require demonstrating mutual value.
5. Flexibility in class and skills for character customization rather than being locked into one set.
6. Leveling and stats based on actions rather than just gear.
7. No breakable weapons, please!
8. A casual experience with no permanent death.
9. The option to play as a gay character and a preference for a secular setting—fantasy elements are okay, but not necessary.
Thanks for your input!

Lost Eidolons has a strong Fire Emblem vibe if you’re looking for something that captures a similar feeling. I haven’t played it myself, but I hear the mechanics are pretty close to what you’re used to, though I’m not sure about the whole breakable weapons thing.
You might like Temple of Elemental Evil with the Temple Plus and Co8 mods—they add a lot! Also, check out the Knights of the Chalice series and the Hearkenwold mod for number 2. If you’re up for something a bit different, Battle Brothers with the legends mod and Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children could be fun too!
Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll check them out!
If you’re enjoying Fire Emblem, you should definitely check out Disgaea 4! It has a lot of similar elements, and Valvatorez has a pretty close relationship with his werewolf partner. The Valkyria Chronicles series might be up your alley too. Just a heads up, VC has permadeath, but it’s more forgiving—you can rescue characters if they get knocked out. Plus, VC2, available on PSP, has a hub similar to the monastery scenery. For something a bit different but still great, try Yggdra Union; it’s linear but super fun!
Thanks, I’ll have a look at these!
Yeah, definitely some gay vibes in there, lol.
Thanks for the recommendation!
