I’m planning to upgrade the internal storage of my PS5 by adding an SSD. I’m looking for recommendations on the right type and brand of SSD that fits the PS5’s requirements. Ideally, I want the largest capacity possible since Sony says the console supports up to 8TB. If you have any tips on brands, models, or essential specs to consider, I’d love to hear them!

I’d just add that having a heatsink is pretty important since the PS5 expansion slot doesn’t come with one. If you pick an SSD without a heatsink, you can usually buy an aftermarket one pretty cheaply and attach it yourself. Otherwise, your SSD might run hot and throttle performance. Also, double-check the read speeds on the SSD to be at least 5000 MB/s or higher for smooth gameplay and loading times.
To upgrade your PS5’s internal storage, make sure you get an M.2 NVMe SSD that supports PCIe 4.0 with read speeds around 5000 MB/s or more. PCIe 3.0 drives won’t work at all on the PS5. Capacity-wise, Sony supports anywhere from 256GB up to 8TB, but realistically, super large SSDs can get really pricey—sometimes even more than the PS5 itself! I’d suggest aiming for something around 2TB for the best balance of size and cost. Brands like Samsung, Western Digital, Crucial, and Kingston typically have good options. Also, it’s a smart move to get one with a built-in heatsink, or you can add one yourself for a small extra cost. The PS5’s expansion slot doesn’t have its own heatsink, so keeping the drive cool helps with performance and longevity.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! Good to know the PCIe 4.0 requirement and heatsink advice. Definitely helps narrow down the choices.
