I recently upgraded to a PS5, so my old PS4 has just been sitting around. My mom, who hasn’t really played video games since the days of Pac Man, asked if she could use it. I want to find some easy, casual games that won’t overwhelm her or require a ton of time commitment. Something fun and approachable, definitely nothing too intense like Red Dead Redemption or even the more story-heavy Kingdom Hearts. Any recommendations for beginner-friendly games she might enjoy?

Donut County is a neat pick too—it’s a quirky physics puzzle game that’s pretty short and simple. Perfect if she wants something casual that doesn’t require too much commitment.
For something a bit nostalgic but still very approachable, the remastered Crash Bandicoot trilogy is a nice option. Friendly difficulty for beginners and it’s just plain fun swinging through levels.
I’ve gotta say, the Lego games are super accessible and fun, especially for someone new to gaming. They’re lighthearted, easy to understand, and you won’t get stuck too often, which makes them great for casual players.
Oh, and I’d also recommend Stray—it’s visually beautiful and not too complicated. It’s a bit of an adventure without huge demands on time or skill, so it’s a nice middle ground for new gamers.
If she’s into relaxing and not rushing, Stardew Valley is an awesome pick. It’s a chill farming sim, very easy to get into, and you can play at your own pace without stress.
