I’m in the early stages of building a gaming PC meant to serve as a living room console, primarily controlled by a gamepad. It’s going to be an all-AMD setup, but I haven’t figured out what operating system to use yet. I’ve been using Manjaro for a few months and have a good grasp of Linux now, but I’m looking for suggestions. I’ve come across a couple of options tailored for handheld gaming like Bazzite or possibly CachyOS, and I’m hopeful SteamOS might be released by the time I’m ready to build. Has anyone else built a similar setup? What OS did you choose, or what would you recommend?

I’ve tried a couple of HTPC distros, and Bazzite stands out for its flexibility. You can use it with either GNOME or KDE, unlike ChimeraOS which is fixed on GNOME. Bazzite is a solid choice for a console-like experience. Most people I spoke to recommend it for setups like yours!
Bazzite is specifically designed for gaming setups. It comes with all the essential gaming software pre-installed and launches straight into Steam’s big picture mode. It’s easy to set up, perfect for what you’re looking for!
Sounds like Bazzite is a common recommendation. I’m glad to hear it has a good track record for performance and usability!
