Hey everyone! I just got myself an RTX 5080, and I’ve heard about cable melting issues that some users have experienced. I want to avoid any potential problems, so I’m looking for advice on the safest cable option out of the three I have:
1. Use the adapter that came included in the box.
2. Go for a 3rd party cable from Corsair that connects directly to the GPU without any adapters. Here’s what I’m considering: [Corsair Cable](https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-components-accessories/cp-8920284/600w-pcie-5-0-12v-2×6-type-4-psu-power-cable-cp-8920284?srsltid=AfmBOoomBVs6NvhzGhHbJM9Mewycz4dVoghG2xPxyRzHtETRipN5Qctm)
3. Or I could use my unopened power supply that comes with a direct 600w connection and the cable that’s already included: [Certusfun Cable](https://www.amazon.com/Certusfun-12VHPWR-Compatible-Gigabyte-Thermaltake/dp/B0BLWQ86MV?th=1)
Which option do you all think is the safest?

Option 2 is pretty good if your PSU is a Corsair unit that supports it. Just make sure to check Corsair’s compatibility table to see if your specific model has the right cables. If you’ve got a different PSU brand, some, like Seasonic, might also have the right native cable. Just keep in mind that all connections carry some risk—the issue mainly lies with the GPU connector itself. Personally, I’d avoid adapters to reduce the risk, so either option 2 or 3 sounds solid to me!
I have a Corsair RMX 850 from 2021, which is why I’m leaning towards option 2. However, I also just got the new RMX 850e (2025) that would allow me to go with option 3. I’m really torn between the two!
