Hey folks, my GTX 970 is really starting to show its age, and I need a budget-friendly GPU replacement for some decent 1080p 60fps gaming. I’ve been looking at the RTX 3060 and the Ti version, but I’ve noticed the prices are still kind of high. Interestingly, the RTX 4060 is around $50 cheaper than any RTX 3060 or 3060 Ti I’ve found out there, and it appears to have better power consumption and efficiency. It seems like it might perform better in some games too.
As someone who hasn’t kept up with the GPU market in over ten years, I’m wondering if the RTX 4060 is a good call. Also, are there any solid AMD GPUs I should be considering? Would love to hear your thoughts on value GPUs right now!

The 3070 is going for decent prices like $300-400 on eBay these days. It would definitely be a worthy upgrade from your current setup!
If you’re really focused on efficiency, the 4060 is a solid choice. Just be aware that turning textures down might be necessary to get the best performance. Options like the Intel B570/B580 are decent too, though they’re not as efficient. And on the AMD front, the 9070 (non-XT) could be good, though it’s pricier.
Have you thought about the 2080 Ti? It’s kind of underrated and offers similar performance to the 3060 Ti but with 11GB of VRAM, which should keep it relevant for a while. Prices for used ones can be pretty competitive, so it might be worth checking out!
Good point! But I’ve seen the used prices end up around the same as a 3060 12GB. Still, it’s worth considering.
For your needs, something like the Intel Arc A380 with 6GB would be a great budget option. It can handle 1080p at 60fps and will save you some cash compared to NVIDIA options.
Not sure what your budget is, but if you’re looking for a cheaper yet solid upgrade, AMD could be a good choice. Just make sure to go for something with at least 12GB of VRAM, especially if you plan to play modern titles.
Yeah, AMD is great for the price! Check out comparisons between the 3060 and the 6750 XT—they’re pretty enlightening!
But keep in mind it only has 8GB of VRAM, which might not be enough for some of the latest titles.
