I’ve been noticing a trend in Final Fantasy games that really bothers me: time skips. It started with XV, continued in XVI, and now Rebirth seems to be foreshadowing one, too. The time skips in XV made it feel like Noctis was just wasting away while everything around him was going downhill. In XVI, I’ve encountered two time skips so far (I haven’t finished it yet), and now I’m already worried about the “5 years earlier” situation in Rebirth. It really takes away from my excitement for the game, knowing there will be a portion of the story that’s skipped over.

The flashback in Rebirth is actually part of the original game and is really important for the story. Unlike a time skip, which jumps ahead without showing what happens, this flashback helps set up the plot. Plus, with Cloud and Tifa narrating, it feels more like storytelling. If you’re not a fan of time jumps, just think of it as a story within a story instead of a flashback.
I get that it’s a flashback, but I wish we could see everything that happened leading up to it, like when Zack takes Cloud to Midgar.
