I’m on the hunt for competitive strategy games where everyone starts on an equal footing, without any grinding or purchases that give an unfair advantage. So far, I’ve come across Teamfight Tactics and Chess, but it feels like most other games I’ve tried—like Backpack Brawl, Arcane Rush, Hearthstone, or Clash Royale—have some pay-to-win mechanics or allow for leveling up units or cards. I’m curious if there’s a game out there where once you install it, you’re on the same playing field as someone who’s been playing for years or who has spent a lot of money. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out Polytopia. It’s a great PvP strategy game that doesn’t bombard you with ads. While there are some unique factions you can buy, I’ve found that the core game is balanced between free and paid options. The gameplay revolves around a few factions that are accessible to everyone, so it’s pretty fair! Plus, you can play online in asymmetric PvP or in real-time, which keeps things interesting.
Polytopia definitely stands out, especially because the skill matters more than who has spent money!
