I’m on the hunt for some cool fantasy RPGs where I can build a character around using just one dagger effectively. A lot of modern games force you into dual-wielding if you want to embrace the dagger class, but I’m looking for games that allow a single dagger to shine. I’m open to including games where your offhand isn’t just another melee weapon.
For example, in the Elder Scrolls series, using a single dagger is viable since the earlier titles don’t allow dual-wielding and in Skyrim, you can spice it up with an invisibility spell in your left hand. The Souls games also lend themselves well to a one-dagger build since they let you equip a spell or crossbow as your offhand. Guild Wars 2 is another pick where you can use a pistol to back up that single dagger.
However, I’ve noticed that Elder Scrolls Online doesn’t offer a non-dual-wielding option for daggers. What are your suggestions?

You might want to check out Chivalry 2! It’s not a traditional RPG, but the dagger can be super effective for the classes that use it. It doesn’t have much range, but it’s fast and can interrupt enemies, letting you stab away right in their face! It’s similar in Mordhau, but it has its tricky skilled players to contend with.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is another great pick, along with Divinity: Original Sin if I recall correctly. Both games give you decent options to focus on one dagger for your build. Super fun gameplay in both!
For something a bit different, check out The Last Spell. It’s a roguelike RPG where one of the top builds revolves around using a knife, which can definitely hold its own in the game. Super engaging combat and strategy!
If you’re up for something offbeat, Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon is currently in early access and allows for sneaky builds with a dagger or pairing it with spells. You can still choose to dual-wield, but the single dagger build shines well! Plus, it’s launching soon—May 23!
In the Oblivion Remake, I’ve found that a single dagger is one of the best melee weapon types. The DPS is high and it benefits from stealth damage multipliers. If you’re looking at traditional RPGs, that’s a solid choice!
