I recently set up Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and I’m looking to play a free game based on the Backrooms, you know, that eerie liminal space concept. If there aren’t any free options, I’d appreciate recommendations for paid ones too. Thanks!

Honestly, outside of Steam and Itch.io, there aren’t many native Linux games featuring the Backrooms theme. Most free ones are Windows-only, so if you’re open to buying, Steam has some cool options. Otherwise, using Proton or Lutris to run Windows games is the way to go on Ubuntu.
Yeah, Steam’s probably your best bet. You can search for “Backrooms” games there, and many will run fine on Ubuntu using Proton. Also, it’s a good idea to check ProtonDB, a database where users report how well specific games run on Linux, so you don’t waste time on ones that don’t work well.
If by “Backrooms” you mean the creepy maze-like liminal spaces concept, then there are a few indie titles out there. Most of the free ones are on platforms like Itch.io or Steam. While Ubuntu doesn’t natively run many Windows games, you can often use Steam Proton to play a lot of them seamlessly.
Thanks! I’ve heard about Proton but wasn’t sure how well it works with indie titles like these.
