I’m currently playing Wind Waker on Switch 2 online, and I’m really struggling with the controls. Back in the GameCube days, we didn’t have much choice, but now the inability to customize camera directions is super frustrating for me—I prefer to play with down as up and vice versa! I’ve played around with the remap feature, but it didn’t help at all. I’m wondering if anyone here who has the Wii U HD version knows if they made any changes to the camera controls? I’d like to avoid spending money on it if the controls are still the same as on the Switch.

I started with the GC version on Switch 2, and while it was good, the HD version blew me away! The visuals and control fixes made a big difference. If you can get the HD version, I’d recommend it—it’s totally worth it for the experience!
You can actually invert the camera settings on Switch 2, but keep in mind this also reverses the Wind Waker controls, so it’s a bit of a trade-off.
If you have a Pro Controller, you can adjust the settings for the controls using that, which might be a better fix for you!
I’ll give that a shot! If the Wind Waker controls aren’t too confusing, then it’s worth trying. Thanks!
Yes, the HD version has indeed fixed some of these issues. If you have a good PC, you might even consider alternative methods to play the HD version—it runs like a dream!
I’ll have to look into that! Thanks a lot for the tip.
I prefer the Wii U version too! It’s basically the same as the GameCube, just adapted to the GamePad. You can invert your controls on Switch 2, but it won’t change much from GC.
Thanks for the insight! It’s good to know I can adjust a bit on Switch.
You can change the camera controls in the online settings, so if that didn’t help, you might need to tweak your setup.
Maybe I did something wrong while messing with the settings. I’ll try again!
The Wii U version did improve the controls. It inverted the camera and shooting controls, used the right stick for aiming, and added gyro aiming. Plus, you get the Swift Sail, which makes sailing way easier.
That’s exactly why I went for the Wii U version instead of Switch 2 recently; the quality-of-life improvements are huge!
I was concerned about the same thing. I’ve always found the gyro aiming annoying, but the Swift Sail makes it worth it.
I’m considering it, but it’s pricey around here! Thanks for the advice, though.
