Hey everyone! I recently got my first laptop, an HP Spectre x360 with some great specs, including an Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and 2TB of storage. However, it doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, and now that I’m getting back into gaming, I’ve hit a wall with its graphics performance. I was researching external GPUs (eGPUs) and wanted to know if they’re worth the investment. I live in France but will be moving to Mauritius soon, where electronics are pricey and I’m limited on luggage space, so I can’t build a desktop PC. Would getting an eGPU make sense for my gaming setup?

Honestly, unless you’re always on the go and need something portable, I think you’re better off saving up for a proper gaming desktop. The performance you get from eGPUs just doesn’t compare, and they can be a bit limiting on laptops anyway.
Laptops aren’t really meant for serious gaming. If you’re into gaming, a desktop is definitely the way to go—better performance overall. But if you just need something temporary, maybe try the eGPU option.
eGPUs can be pretty expensive, with cases costing between $300 to $500 or more, and that’s before you even add in the cost of a current GPU. There are cheaper options, but they’d require you to modify your laptop or use an expensive adapter, which can be more hassle than it’s worth. Overall, if you’re looking for an easy solution, I wouldn’t recommend it.
True, but I’ve heard that using Oculink connections could be a budget-friendly way to get good performance without too much hassle!
I see your point, but I still have some travel limitations. The eGPU might be my best shot for now.
