I’m thinking about playing translations of Dragon Quest V and VI on my SNES with a CRT display. I’ve never played these games before, and I’m curious if they still hold up in today’s gaming landscape. Are they worth my time? I get that they can be challenging, but surely the SNES versions incorporated some more modern features? I’ve only played through Dragon Quest I on the NES, which was tough, and I’ve done about half of Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2. I’m eager to hear any advice or encouragement!

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend playing the original SNES versions. The DS and PS2 remakes of Dragon Quest V are way better since they have more content and improved mechanics. As for DQ VI, it’s considered the weakest of the series, and while the SNES version has its charm, it’s really not on par with other SNES JRPGs. You might enjoy the remakes much more!
Just play them and see for yourself! It could be a fun experience, even if they’re a bit dated. Plus, playing on a CRT adds a unique vibe!
Yeah, I’ve heard the same. The remakes seem to address a lot of the issues. A lot of people rave about the DS versions, especially for DQ V!
