With the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages priced at $80, many gamers are wondering if this signals a new standard for AAA game pricing. Is the increase justified based on the rising production costs of modern games? Personally, I might have skipped this title if it weren’t for its inclusion in the game pass. Also, I recently found out that in Germany the price is €80, which seems higher compared to the US where it’s listed cheaper. Current conversions put the price at around $88 for me.

Honestly, I think waiting for sales is the best strategy. Games drop in price faster than ever, and with services like Game Pass, there’s really no rush to buy at launch anymore. Why spend $80 when you can play it for cheaper later?
I really believe the trend of prices going up is just something we have to deal with. I haven’t bought a game for full price in years. Unless there’s a massive discount, I’m not jumping on the new releases anymore. It’s all about finding the right deals!
Exactly! Sales are the way to go. Paying full price just doesn’t make sense with all the options available now.
Honestly, I think $70 is the price on Steam right now. Maybe there’s some confusion or regional differences at play here? In the US, it’s listed at $70, not $80. I wonder where that info is coming from?
OP is probably in Europe; here in Germany, it’s listed at €79.99 for the standard edition.
The question remains: if people keep paying these higher prices, companies will keep raising them. It’s simple economics. I mean, $80 might just be the new normal, but I won’t pay that unless the games are truly worth it and without all the DLC nonsense. Recently, it feels like most AAA games do not justify their costs anymore.
I completely agree. It’s frustrating when half-baked games come out at these prices. If they want to charge more, they need to deliver quality.
Right? I love waiting until a game is on deep sale; it gives me time to clear my backlog anyway!
