Are 3D printed models okay in the tabletop community?

-

Is it cool to use 3D printed figures in tabletop games? I’m getting into games like D&D and Warhammer, and I’ve noticed lots of people are 3D printing their own models and characters now. I like the idea because it seems cheaper and you can customize stuff more than just buying the official miniatures. But is this something that’s generally accepted in the tabletop community or do folks get annoyed if you’re not using the official stuff? Are there any groups that actually don’t allow this, or is it mainly about how good the quality of your prints are? I’d love to know if people generally think it’s an acceptable way to play or if there’s a big divide between those who print and those who don’t.

It kind of depends who you play with. Some folks dont care at all and are totally cool with home-printed stuff as long as its painted well and looks good. Others might be purists and prefer official models, especially in competitive scenes where rules can be strict. Talk to your group about it!

Really just ask your gaming group. If its chill, 3D printed models are a fun way to customize your army and save money. For official games or events tho, stick to the real deal.

Ive seen a lot of people in my local scene using 3D printed models with no probs. The main thing is if they look decent and clearly represent what theyre supposed to be on the table. For tournaments tho, official models are generally required.
