I’m having serious issues with Apex Legends crashing before I can even get into a match. Sometimes it manages to load after relaunching the game multiple times (5-10 tries!), but it’s still really unstable. Strangely enough, menus and lobby screens seem to work fine, but once I enter a match loading screen, it crashes. This problem happens regardless of whether I’m using Steam or the EA App. I haven’t seen any Blue Screen of Death errors or crash logs in Event Viewer despite trying a bunch of fixes. Here are my system specs:
– CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KF
– GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super
– RAM: 32 GB DDR5
– Motherboard: Lenovo Z790
– OS: Windows 11
I’ve tried a lot of different fixes, including reinstalling the game from both platforms, adjusting graphics settings, messing with drivers, and even performing a clean boot. The only thing I haven’t done yet is a clean install of Windows. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas on what else I could try?

Have you tried installing the latest drivers cleanly? Sometimes residual files can cause conflicts. Also, make sure you’re using DX12 instead of DX11 since it’s the only supported API for Apex now. Just a little adjustment like that might make a difference.
Also, I’ve noticed specific characters like Maggie can cause crashes during selection animations. If you encounter that, it might be tied to character models or animations too, but that’s a bit outside your current problem since you crash before-selection as well.
Hey, it sounds like you’ve covered a ton of ground in troubleshooting! It’s curious that the crashes only happen with Apex Legends. Since your PC is relatively new, it’s less likely to be hardware failure, but it’s still worth checking the power cables connected to your GPU. Some users found that using a different 12VHPWR cable (like the one from EVGA) solved similar issues for them. If you haven’t tried that yet, give it a shot!
Interesting info! I thought about cables but assumed my system being new wouldn’t have those issues. I might try swapping it out if I run out of options.
Your best bet might still be a clean Windows install if nothing else works. It can be a pain, but if the game is crashing consistently across different setups, it might point to a deeper issue. You could also test other games to see if they crash, which could indicate a problem with hardware.
Thanks for the heads up! I wasn’t aware of that change. I’ll switch it to DX12 and install the latest drivers.
