I’ve been playing Destiny since March 2021 after my boyfriend introduced me to it. Since then, I’ve logged about 1,600 hours, making it my most played game across all platforms. However, I’m not great at it and often get carried through various activities. I haven’t played the original Destiny and don’t follow much of the story, but I still enjoy the game a lot. My boyfriend has gifted me several collectibles, which I proudly display on two shelves in my room. Lately, I’ve started to feel like a fraud fan, similar to someone wearing a sports cap of a team they don’t truly support. Is it wrong to look like a big fan when I don’t even grasp half of the lore or understand what builds are best?

Honestly, who cares? You’re playing because you enjoy it, and that’s way more respected than someone who’s chasing all achievements without having fun. Just enjoy casual gaming without the pressure!
You don’t need to be a lore expert or have played the first Destiny to be a fan. Everyone enjoys the game differently. Just keep playing and loving it your way!
If you’re having fun and enjoying the game, that’s what truly matters! Don’t stress about what others think—a lot of players just play for the love and not for hardcore gameplay or lore mastery.
Sounds like you get joy out of the game and collectibles, and that’s what counts! Some people dive deep into lore but that doesn’t make your experience any less valid. Enjoy your time and play however makes you happy!
Forget the gatekeeping! Whether you’ve sunk in 1000 hours or just two, if you enjoy the game, that’s genuine fandom. Plus, your boyfriend probably loves sharing the experience with you.
