I’m currently using an RTX 3070 (8GB VRAM), paired with a Ryzen 5800X and 32GB of RAM. My motherboard is AM4, so I suspect it only supports DDR4. I’m struggling to maintain my target of 144 frames at 1440p on high/ultra settings in some games I enjoy, like Marvel Rivals and Fortnite, and even newer AAA titles require me to lower the graphics. While I know upgrading my CPU would also necessitate a new motherboard, I’m not sure if the 8GB of VRAM is my biggest issue. My setup is only about 3 years old, so I’m looking for a targeted upgrade to improve performance without a complete overhaul. Ideally, I’d like a solution that lasts for more than a year or two. I’m open to selling my 3070 but haven’t planned any replacements yet and don’t know its market value. Money is somewhat of a consideration, but I have access to a no-interest credit card for six months. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Your 5800X is still a solid CPU, so there’s no immediate rush to upgrade it. If you’re looking for a GPU upgrade, consider the RX 9700 or the 5070; they might be available at reasonable prices. The 5070 has 12GB of VRAM, which could help your performance, even though it’s not the absolute ideal choice. Definitely focus on the GPU first since it seems to be your bottleneck right now.
Thanks for the tip! So, it sounds like the GPU is where I should invest first. Are the benefits of a 5080 worth the extra bucks for future games?
