I’m looking to transition from console gaming to PC gaming, but I’m on a budget. I have a steady income, so I’d like to invest in a laptop for playing Helldivers with my friends. My budget is around $900 or less. Since I’m not very familiar with PC specs, could anyone offer advice on laptops that could handle Helldivers and similar games?

Getting a desktop instead of a laptop might be your best bet. While desktops need additional peripherals like monitors and keyboards, they tend to provide better performance for the price and are upgrade-friendly. For example, you might find prebuilt options with a 14000 series CPU and RTX 4060 under $900. These setups are great for 1080p gaming. But if you go the laptop route, they can get quite hot and aren’t as comfy for longer sessions. Keep an eye out for sales and discounts on slightly older models too.
If you want to get into gaming with a laptop, I’d suggest looking into models from ROG as they make some solid gaming laptops. But honestly, if you’re comfortable assembling things, building a desktop could be a better option. You can upgrade parts over time, and it’s not as costly as it might seem.
Laptops can be practical, but desktops generally give you better value for your money. However, if you’re set on getting a laptop, aim for an Intel i5 processor, at least 12GB of RAM, some sort of SSD for storage, and a decent graphics card. For NVIDIA cards, check the number like ‘3060’—the first part is the series and the second indicates performance.
