I’m currently using a GTX 4070 and considering whether to upgrade my monitor. I’ve been using a basic 1080p 74Hz monitor and I’m trying to decide if moving to 4K is worth it, or if 1440p would be a smart choice given my budget. Would a 1440p monitor still offer a significant improvement, or should I save up for a 4K monitor even though those are pricier?

Honestly man, check out some TVs that offer 4K at 120fps. They’re a bit bigger and give you a good future-proof setup. You might not hit 120fps with the 4070 in heavy games, but it could be a nice long-term investment if you’re thinking big. I switched from monitors to TV screens, and I’m loving the larger setups.
Trying out 1440p with something like a 360Hz refresh rate has been eye-opening for me. If you’re heavy into competitive gaming, the high refresh rate can be game-changing compared to just increasing resolution.
If you’re looking at screen size too, 1440p with a high refresh rate might be more beneficial than 4K at just 60Hz. A higher refresh rate often enhances gaming more than just higher resolution, providing smoother gameplay. Personally, I’d go with a 1440p ultrawide—it’s a sweet spot for both quality and performance.
I’m not super tech-savvy, but I’ve heard that OLED panels can make a big difference in color and refresh rates. If you like gaming on smaller panels, consider switching to OLEDs even though they often come in 4K. Just make sure that your GPU can handle what you’re expecting from the upgrade, otherwise it might not be a worthwhile leap.
With a 4070, you’d likely have a smoother experience at 1440p, especially with a high refresh rate like 144Hz. 4K gaming can be heavy on your GPU, and a 4070 might struggle a bit keeping up with high frame rates at that resolution. Most people find 1440p still offers a great visual upgrade from 1080p without the heavy cost of 4K, so it’s a solid middle ground.
