Minecraft Farm

Crop and Animal Farm

When playing in survival mode a farm is a must have. If you are hunting for diamonds you are going to need a constant source of food. Unless you enjoy running around hunting for animals, it makes most sense to build a farm to have a constant stream of food right on your doorstep.

In order to breed animals you are going to need some crops. Click here if you need more information on what you need to breed animals. Wheat grows very quick and harvesting it produces more seeds so its an endless supply of food to feed to cows and chickens. You can also make bread, but steaks are the best way to go.

Start by building fenced off areas that you can keep your animals inside of. Make sure you don’t use big walls as you need to be able to feed the animals without having to go inside. Eventually you will have to go inside in order to kill the animals, you should use a double gate system to prevent the animals from breaking out when you open the gate.

To get animals inside of these areas you need to equip the food that the animal likes to eat. If you are unsure what food they like, click here. When you have the food equipped the animal will follow you around. You can use this go to go and search for animals and lead them back to your farm.

To make feeding animals easier you need to start planting crops. If you don’t have any wheat seeds you can hit tall grass and every so often they will drop some seeds. Carrots can sometimes be found in chests, but you will usually have to find a farm in an auto generated village and harvest them from here. You can plant a carrot straight into the ground in order to grow more.

Over time the amount of crops will grow and you will have more than enough to feed you and all of the animals.

All that is left to do is add some decoration to the area. A little farm house to store your supplies, hay bales lying around the place help improve the look. If you want you could also add a stables, but this breaks away from the look of a traditional farm. If you have been able to find some watermelon seeds or pumpkin seeds you could grow some of them too. The amount of food you get from melons isn’t really worth it so I usually just grow them because they look cool.
