Devil May Cry is one of the leading franchises in the hack n slash genre. Known for the dark themes and over the top action, it has become one of the most popular games of its kind.
The first 3 games in the Devil May Cry series are by far my favorite. I haven’t enjoyed the newer entries to the series, but I still like these games. I am looking for other games like Devil May Cry that have a similar crazy combat system with big ass boss fights and all of the other fun things that come with DMC. What are some other good games like Devil May Cry?
Bayonetta
Bayonetta is one of the first games that comes to mind for me. It is almost the exact same thing except with a female character. It's from a Japanese dev, so it has the same sort of visual style. Heavily focused around hunting demons, but doesnt let things get dark and scary. The combat is also brilliant. Platinum Games are really good at making these kinds of games. Bayonetta has since become a Nintendo exclusive and it doesn't look like this will change any time soon, but the first game is multi platform.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
It's a hack and slash set in the Metal Gear universe. It is absolutely nothing like Metal Gear Solid. You play as Ninja Raiden and he is a tank. Same combat style as DmC, but with more machines and guns. The character you play as however, is always using a sword, this sword just happens to be able to chop armored machines in half.
Ninja Gaiden 3
The Ninja Gaiden games are more difficult than DmC, but are some of the best hack and slash games out there. The controls are always responsive and accurate, so you only die because you mess up. The games usually involve some kind of monsters and demons.
Dante's Inferno
This game is another game with monsters and demons. It doesn't have any of the humor that Devil May Cry has, but it is a lot like it in most other ways.
Nioh
Check out Nioh. Its a newer game and its got a lot of similarities with the Devil May Cry series.
NieR
This is another game that is like Devil May Cry. It's no walk in the park, but its similar to DmC
Heavenly Sword
The final game that I can think of is HEavenly Sword. It was made by Ninja Theory, who also made the new DmC game, so you should see a lot of similarities between both games. Heavenly Sword was a mostly forgotten game that released back when the PS3 was struggling, so it never got much press, but it was a really good game.
