Leveling Up Heroes

Fortnite has a fairly unconventional levelling system for the in-game characters. Typically games that have XP, you will earn some for each kill you get and this will contribute toward the character level, but not in Fortnite. Levelling up heroes is slightly different and takes a bit of thought into how you might decide to level them up. Here are some important things you need to know about levelling up heroes in Fortnite.

How To Level Up A Hero

You need to use XP chips in order to give XP to your heroes. You level up in the home base menu. On the heroes tab, press triangle or Y on the hero that you wish to level up. On the bottom right corner, you will see how much XP you have available on the left and how much XP is required to level up the current character. You will get to assign 10 levels to a hero before you must stop and first evolve them before being able to progress any further. You do not need to collect the XP chips with the same hero in order to assign the xp to that character. For example, if you play the first 5 hours as 1 hero and spend 0 XP, then decide to try a new hero, all of those XP chips collected can be used on your new hero, which is really handy. XP chips are common so, getting characters levelled up is not so tough.

What Are Hero Evolutions?

Evolutions are represented by stars on the character card. A character with 1 star, has not yet been evolved which normally means you will only be able to get them up to level 10. Once you get to level 10, you need to evolve them to progress any further. If you look on the central panel, you will see some skills that the character has. You start out with one, but when you evolve, you will gain access to newer and more powerful skills. Over time, you will find these are required to take on the more difficult hordes of enemies, making evolution something you need to put some time into. Always make sure to upgrade the hero that is right for you.

Evolving is a far more difficult thing to do, particularly at the start of the game. You require far more components than just XP and most of these components are quite rare. When you are viewing the hero that you want to evolve, press the “View Evolution” button, which is square on the image above. This will show you all of the items that you must obtain to evolve this hero. Max level, xp and pure drop of rain are fairly simple, although the pure drop of rain are quite rare. The biggest question people have are the training manuals.

– Where to get evolution training manuals

This is a tough one at first, but its actually easy to obtain them, just very time-consuming. You get the training manuals from a few sources that require you to have progressed quite a bit through the game. Retiring heroes that are blue or higher will usually yield a training manual and others have said that the level 18 collection reward will also give you some. Either way, it will be a while before you get this far and when you do, you should have come across them without having to try.

The final thing when it comes to evolutions is that you need to have purchased a skill tree point to allow for the evolutions to occur in the first place. For example, if you have all of the requirements to evolve a character, you must then purchase a skill from the skill tree in order to actually evolve the character. There are 4 different points, for each of the 4 hero types (soldier, ninja, constructor and Outlander). The image below will show the talent tree point for the Outlander, but the other 3 are the same.
