I have gotten to a point in the story where I have been warned that if I proceed, I will not be able to return to the north. This will lock me out of the lost lake area of the game. Is this permanent or just for a portion of the story?
I want to be able to get the platinum trophy and I have not completed all of the things needed in this area. Can I come back and clean up at the end of the game or do I need to get this stuff done now? I’ve made a game save to be safe so I can go back to this point in the future to get trophies.

Yes you can. Even though the game warns you that you can’t return, you can. You just have to complete the main storyfirst and then you can freely travel around the place
