Duskfade Brings Classic Platforming Spirit to PlayStation 5
Weird Beluga Studio has unveiled Duskfade, a new 3D action-platformer set for release on PlayStation 5 in 2026. The game seeks to blend the essence of beloved PlayStation classics such as Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank with modern gameplay mechanics and a deeply emotionally-driven narrative.
At the heart of Duskfade is Zirian, a workshop apprentice embarking on a journey to restore the flow of time in a world that has fallen under a perpetual night. Players will traverse a visually striking “clockpunk” world, full of intricate details and vibrant landscapes. The game’s world design and attention to detail reflect a strong dedication to capturing the charm of classic action-platformers while introducing contemporary innovations.
Combat in Duskfade draws inspiration from both Ratchet & Clank and Kingdom Hearts. It features a responsive dodge roll mechanic, promoting fluid movement and skillful play. The tight control scheme is designed to appeal to fans of the genre seeking both challenge and satisfaction in battle.
A central element of the game’s story revolves around Zirian and his sister Allira, exploring personal themes of loss, love, and moving forward. The developers, inspired by their lived experiences, aim to deliver a narrative with genuine emotional depth, making Duskfade stand out among its peers.
The team behind the project, Weird Beluga Studio, was founded by five university friends. Their creative journey began after winning the PlayStation Talents competition, an achievement that paved the way for their debut title, Clid the Snail. With Duskfade, the studio aims to deliver a heartfelt homage to the golden era of action-platformers, characterized by a colorful visual style and a deeply personal story.
This upcoming release contributes to a growing movement within the indie games industry, where emotional storytelling and inclusive perspectives are taking center stage. Duskfade represents an effort to meld the nostalgic excitement of classic games with narratives that resonate personally with both players and creators.
