The skill tree is always one of the most daunting elements of any RPG. Trying to figure out what the best skills are to use early on in the game to maximise the usefulness and not to waste valuable skill points on something that isn’t going to be of value to you in the long term. I will aim to go over the system and give an overview of the best skill points to use early on in the game.
You can find the skill tree by entering the main menu and navigating over to the far left. You will earn skill points from completing some quests and you will always get a point when you level up. This means you can get 50 skill points just from leveling up.
What Are The Best Skills?
This is always a hard question to answer, but I do have some advise to give here. Early on in the game, most enemies are fairly easy to kill without needing any advanced combat techniques. While it is important to focus on them, you should first focus on the skills that will grant you a long term advantage. I feel that your first 9 skill points are best spent on increasing your scavenging abilities. The 4 skills on the far right column under the Forager category are by far the best to get early on in the game. By getting these skills early in the game, you will spend 100% of your time earning extra resources and potentially some rare ones. Purchase these skills as soon as you can.
- Ammo Crafter (not as good as the others, but it is required for Scavenger +)
- Scavenger +
Once you have these there are 2 optional skills that are worth considering. The Healer and Herbalist skills in the Forager section can be useful. Some people may think its a waste to buy defense and instead spend it on attack. It is up to you. The 4 main skills listed above are the best, the rest are optional.
As for combat, its down to how you play. I didn’t really like using my spear, so i put more focus on my bow and ranged combat related skills. Tailor the skills to however you play the game.
